The vision of the Faculty of Social Sciences is to lead the Nepalese academia in the fields of Social Sciences and to gain a strong international position in order to contribute towards the goal of Pokhara University of being one of the leading universities in the South Asian region.
The mission of the Faculty of Social Sciences is to advance, promote and propel the social, economic, political, cultural, governance, and environmental development of the Nepalese society through teaching, research and study, innovation, training, community and public services, and intellectual leadership in the broad field of social sciences.
The Faculty also has the mission to provide students, researchers and knowledge aspirants a window to the nation, South Asian region and the whole world through social sciences.
The goal of the Faculty of Social Sciences is to produce a professional, academic and entrepreneurial community with scientific knowledge, intellectual insight, technical know-how, and practical skill (KITS) for independent thought, critical analysis, self-awareness and professional and academic proficiency based on disciplinary clarity, multidisciplinary distinction and interdisciplinary comprehensiveness.
The teaching objectives of the Faculty are to provide learning opportunities in contemporary and frontier fields of social sciences, enhance the quality of education and teaching, to improve study efficiency, and to develop new courses and educational opportunities, focusing in particular on the national human resources market and social entrepreneurship development, yet ready to accept the international professional, academic and entrepreneurial challenges on societal and developmental fields.
The research objectives of the Faculty are to increase and strengthen research activities in all Schools, Programmes and Units; to enhance research capacity of all faculty members, research scientists, and students; and to provide outreach services to national, South Asian as well as the global clients in the field of research on social sciences. The Faculty also has the objective to publish all research works on contemporary national and international journals and contribute to the stock of knowledge. Ultimately, research works and publications have to contribute to teaching, research and community services.
The training objectives of the Faculty are to train academics, professionals and entrepreneurs thereby to continue refreshing and reinforcing the trained ones with a view to meet the working challenges in, and to continuously lead, the fields of social sciences and societal development.
The community relation objective of the Faculty is to increase visibility of the Faculty’s activities with social responsibility in general, to focus more research projects towards community and to disseminate actual research contributions to be benefit of the community in particular.

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is one of the three functioning faculties of Pokhara University at present. Pokhara University offers three Master and one Bachelor Programs under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences: Master in Population, Gender and Development (MPGD), Master of Arts in English (MA), Master of Philosophy in English (M. Phil), and Bachelor in Development Studies (BA). Initiated in 2003, Master in Population, Gender and Development Program and BA in Development Studies leading to Master’s Degree are the only constituent programs of the University. This program was launched under tripartite agreement between UNFPA, Government of Nepal and Pokhara University to build the institution’s capacities in teaching, training and research on cutting-edge issues and trends in gender and population.
