Faculty of Education Sciences
Education encompasses every aspect and dimension of the human life and behavior, and represents a crucial aspect for the future of any society. This is particularly true in Nepal, where Education is a national priority for the country! In the last decade, Nepal has witnessed growing awareness about the importance of education for achieving national stability, prosperity and raising the overall standards of living.
Although levels of access and participation in education are increasing, many young people still lack basic skills, functional literacy and numeracy, and disciplinary knowledge that are deemed necessary to function effectively in a modern society. To address educational and societal issues, the Faculty of Educational Sciences (FES) aims to join the national efforts to improve the overall educational enterprise, enhance access to education and increase the effectiveness of national delivering mechanisms and practices of the higher education system.
The Faculty is a newly established and vibrant academic community of Mid-western University and is located in the University premises in Birendranagar Municipality, in Surkhet District.
The Faculty is committed to offer quality education that is skill based and job oriented, as well as ensure access to quality academic programs to prospective students from all parts of Nepal and elsewhere.
The Faculty offers study programs leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees in various disciplines, ranging from education to health issues, educational planning and management, English and Nepali. All programs are designed in a way that embraces theoretical, pedagogical and methodological dimensions of a particular field of study.
This broad range of domains provides also a unique opportunity for disciplinary and thematic combinations of teaching, research and innovation in education. The Faculty addresses both theoretical and applied issues of contemporary Nepali Education, and maintains a constant focus on linking the academic theory with classroom experience, and teaching with research.
The Faculty pays particular attention to the academic quality of teaching and the usage of innovative approaches, modern research methods and ICTs tools for pedagogical practice. By pursuing high standards of teaching, it aims at shaping how people teach, learn, and lead in schools and educational institutions country-wide.
The Faculty is also engaged in scientific research that deals with many educational problems spanning a wide range of disciplines. Engaging research in fact goes beyond the borders of the various disciplines and contributes to create a stimulating intellectual environment for students and an inspiring research environment for talented researchers.
The Faculty considers and regards at ‘students’ as the center of the University life and ultimate addressees of all academic activities. Thus, faculty teachers and members pay great attention in tailoring educational and learning interventions to meet the needs of individual students and equipping them with the personal and professional skills required for a successful educational career and help them to become who they want to be!
School of Education Science
The School of Education Science is established within the Faculty of Educational Sciences. The School is guided by the aspiration to provide educational programs designed to respond to the professional and social needs of various target groups of learners, at all times.
This ambition finds application in the wide-ranging academic study programs offered by the School, which include Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education, Planning and Management, Health and Physical Education, Curriculum and Evaluation, Mathematics, English and Nepali. Graduates of the Faculty can be employed in various educational institutions, government, agencies and industries, in numerous areas ranging from educational services to administration, health-care and welfare services.
The School aims at preparing graduates that are transformative educational practitioners, effective educational leaders, educational researchers, able to assume future leadership and professional roles within the national educational sector and worldwide, thereby making significant contributions to the future of the Nepali Educational System.
The School also aspires to conduct high quality and relevant scientific research and provide a challenging academic environment for researchers and scholars. In the framework of a knowledge society, the Faculty focuses its research activity on analysis of the changes in the social sphere, in organizations and industries, education, health and quality of life .
In addition to teaching and research, the School is also engaged at regional and national level with community organizations, educational institutions and stakeholders, foundations for providing community service and outreach. To this purpose, it holds continuous consultation with key stakeholders and general public for soliciting feedback that may provide indications on how the education sector should develop over the coming years to address key concerns and relevant aspects of the society. To this regard, the School plans to organize and administers continuous education programs for governmental, public and private organizations.
The School is also working to establish collaborative links with national and international renowned universities, higher education institutions and organizations for promoting academic exchange of best practices, promoting mobility and enhancing the overall concept of education.

The School seeks to achieve this mission by creating a participatory learning environment, establishing democratic relationship between students and instructors, hiring highly experienced and qualified faculty teachers and pursuing effective use of technological infrastructure and innovative pedagogical approaches and methods.
The overall objectives of the School are to provide theoretical and practical knowledge in education, conduct research in relevant fields of Education and prepare educational experts for working in public and private institutions.
The specific objectives that the School pursues can be summarized as follows:
- Offer practical educational programs that provide knowledge and skills to address contemporary educational problems of Nepal;
- Prepare well-trained and competent teachers, professional education specialists, planners and administrators, equipped with a variety of instructional skills, strategies and methodologies required for working in a diverse and technological environment, creating stimulating learning environments and delivering effective teaching;
- Develop school managers, educational leaders and qualified education professionals, capable of functioning in the current field of education, able to manage effectively schools and programs and address current social and educational issues in a professional and problem-solving manner;
- Institutionalize teacher development activities in the country by organizing in-service training for teachers and administrators in education in relevant fields;
- Meet the educational needs of a diverse Nepalese community of learners and develop well-rounded graduates by enhancing a full range of students’ competencies, interests, and needs, within the framework of a flexible, humanistic, democratic and participatory academic environment;
- Support a strong connection among theory, research and practice which is reflected in active learning;
- Find solutions to the problem of education based on the use of scientific research methods and produce and disseminate high quality teaching and learning materials.
Starting from the Academic Year 2012-2013, the School of Education Science will run the courses outlined below. However, the School remains committed to widen and diversify its academic offer by starting new academic programs leading to Master’s Degree in the near future.
